Cullman Church of Christ
Our Vision
At Cullman, we believe in the power of God working through prayer. We believe that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in prayer (Romans 8:26-27). The Holy Spirit inspired James to write, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much,” (James 5:16). Therefore, we bathe everything we do in prayer. Prayer is our way of confessing to God that we put our total faith and trust in Him, that we are within the palms of His hands, and that “in Him we live and move and have our being,” (Acts 17:28).
We believe that fervent prayer will release God’s power in our church family so that we can impact the destiny of our city, as well as our entire world, for Christ. Cullman is determined not to let go of God until He breaks through and we pray that our community and each other will become desperate for God. Because of our commitment to prayer, we believe God will show up and use our church in unexpected and incredible ways in both our church and in our community.
Jesus was once asked a very important question. “Which of all the commandments is the most important?” Jesus answered: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:28-31).
At Cullman, these two commandments are central to everything we believe and do. We believe that we must live out these two commandments before it’s even possible for us to live out the rest of the commandments in the Bible. Therefore, loving God and loving others is the foundation we work to build on, and it’s something we strive to do, not just believe.
It’s been said that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” We believe this is a true statement. Words are cheap, and actions speak much louder than words. It’s in the doing that we become more like Christ, not just in the believing. The Bible reveals that Jesus served the needs of the people while he lived on earth, and our goal as the church is to look like Jesus to the community around us.
As disciples of Christ, we are Christ-followers, which means we must try to be like Jesus in all we do. Jesus called himself a servant. Therefore, we must be servants as well. Jesus once said, “The greatest among you will be your servant” (Matthew 23:11.) Therefore, we believe that the only way we can truly be a great church is to be a serving church, and that means we must “Love Like Jesus and Serve Like Jesus.” Jesus is the Savior of the world who made himself the servant of the world. He poured himself out in ministry. Making and growing disciples of Christ is our main goal, and this requires that we become more like Jesus each day. To achieve this goal, we must take on the form of a servant in all we say and do. We are never more like Jesus than when we serve like Jesus.
